The Giralda catches your eye, but the neighbourhoods open up the story. From the river to Triana, from markets to courtyards, discover a Seville shaped by journeys, trades and the people who called it home.
Start with “The Cathedral, the Giralda and the Alcázar”. You begin with a famous line that nobody wrote into the minutes, then follow the chains round the Cathedral steps, where people bought and sold even inside the church. Beneath the Giralda, a minstrel who, according to a chronicle, invites the king to dinner at the top, and a captain who, so the story went, balanced on a beam.
Then there’s “The Alameda and San Lorenzo”. Before it became the neighbourhood's living room, the Alameda was a lagoon, and then a promenade that smelt of its ditches. You start in front of a stone man set into a wall at ground level and follow Calle Santa Clara to the tower of a prince who grew up at the court of Frederick II.
For another side of the city, try “The Arenal and the Port of the Indies”. Seville's quay stood right here by the river. You start at the Torre del Oro, with three answers to its name and a lady shut away inside it who comes from a chronicle, not a fairy tale.
Choose by neighbourhood or by the stories that interest you: each route shows its distance, stops and approximate duration before you set off. The audio is written for walking, with a clear distinction between documented events and local legend. Download it in the app, put on your headphones and pause whenever something catches your eye. English and Spanish are included.
The Seville essentials with their best stories: the famous line about "madmen" that nobody signed, merchants thrown out of the Cathedral, a daredevil on a beam high up the Giralda, the morning of the earthquake, King Pedro's stone seat and an archive where eleven families once lived. It ends at the Torre del Oro.

The centre offers few serious hills, but sunshine sets the pace. Alternate squares, lanes and a long break: Seville rewards a day with room to breathe.

Our Seville guide has suggestions for one, two and three days. Start with one area rather than trying to fit every walk into a day; leave room for travel between neighbourhoods and any indoor visits.
Hills: the centre and Triana are fairly level, with gradients at bridges and some entrances. Underfoot: stone slabs, cobbles and narrow Santa Cruz lanes; slow down in rain.
“The Cathedral, the Giralda and the Alcázar” is the free route: 11 stops over 1.14 km, with an approximate duration of 44 minutes. You can see its map and stops on the route page.
For comfortable walking: spring or autumn. In winter, bring a coat for shade and evenings. March or April · Holy Week: processions and crowds change how you cross the centre.
Download the audio in the app before heading out, then listen offline. Loading the online base map and calculating a new route from your location require a connection.
Every route includes Spanish and British English. The English version is adapted for English-speaking travellers, rather than translated word for word.
