Granada can also be told through the trades and routines of its neighbourhoods. These walks are interested in how people lived and earned a living, beyond recognising a façade. Places of work, shared life and remembrance offer a way into the everyday city, including the differences between its streets and its ways of being inhabited.

In “Legends of the Darro”: You reach the bricked-up balcony of the Casa de Castril and its three explanations, the day in 1590 when a gunpowder workshop blew up, and the Paseo de los Tristes, where bulls once ran over the river.

In “The Realejo”: The Realejo is a living neighbourhood that keeps few stones and a great many stories.

In “Sacromonte”: Thirteen stops downhill across the hill once called Valparaíso: the abbey born of some lead tablets, a cross for every trade, the Friday-night Way of the Cross, the caves the travellers saw, the winter of 1963, the old road out towards Guadix, the postcard prince and the house of the suspect's friend.

Choose from 4 independent walks in Granada. Open the one that interests you to see its map, stops and approximate duration before deciding. You don't need to do them all or follow this selection's order; each walk has its own starting and finishing points.

Granada, before you go

Check the slope before joining two dots on the map. Good shoes, breaks and one neighbourhood at a time keep Granada’s hills from taking over the whole trip.
