Wenceslas Square: from Národní Street to the National Museum
On the night of 17 November 1989, thousands of students wanted to reach Wenceslas Square and couldn't.
Eleven stories on Prague's largest square and the street that runs down to the river: the house where legend places Faust, the man who classified fingerprints, the first defenestration, the Doppler principle, the first girls' grammar school in central Europe, the crypt where the paratroopers of 1942 held out, and the bombs of 1945 that were meant for Dresden.

Charles IV founded a town here for the noisy trades, and the New Town never fell silent. You begin in front of the house where legend says the devil carried Faust off through the ceiling, and find out who really lived there. Across the park, you'll meet a physiologist who looked at fingertips before the police did, a saint with a daring halo, and the town hall from whose windows ten men fell in 1419. After that, Doppler, Eliška Krásnohorská and the crypt of 1942. You finish in front of the house that dances over the gap left by a bomb.

Prague is a city of cobbled squares, bridges and a hill your legs will notice. Group walks by riverbank and leave room to stop: looking is part of the journey.

Josefov was a city within the city, and it very nearly vanished.

Prague loves its legends, and here you'll hear them all with one question in mind: how long have people been telling them?
