Inside the Colosseum: audio tour in Rome
Two thousand years of spectators
From the queue to the underground: the hundred days of the grand opening, the emperor who came down into the arena, bulls, a cross that comes and goes, and the truth about the thumbs-down.
A visit at your own pace
A tour to listen to inside the Colosseum, at your own pace and in whatever order you like. The stories are grouped by floor and area: the entrance, outside; the ground floor; the first floor; and, if your ticket includes them, the arena and the hypogeum, the underground. Each one works from anywhere on its floor or in its area. You'll hear about the crowds from every nation who came to the opening, the hundred days of games, the emperor who came down into the arena, the people who lived inside the arches, the Passion play once staged in the amphitheatre and the stands where everyone had their place. And in the arena and the underground: the two gladiators who fought each other to a standstill, the thumbs-down taken apart and the machinery that made the wild beasts appear.
