Mosques, Mozarabs and Mudejars of Toledo
In 1085 Toledo passed from a Muslim king to a Christian one, and almost everything was left standing.
Earning a living in Toledo: a seventy-year-old master swordsmith, the guild exam, the list of swordsmiths Toledo padded out with real marks, the Zocodover market, Corpus Christi, the papers of Don Quixote, Lázaro, patios, cobertizos and the marzipan of the sick.

Toledo was a city of archbishops and kings, but it lived off its trades. The walk begins with the old master who came from Valencia to found the sword factory, the swordsmiths' exam and the list of swordsmiths that the city padded out with real marks. In Zocodover, the free market and its arches; on the old Calle Ancha, the Corpus Christi awnings; in the Alcaná, the old papers Cervantes claims to have bought; in the Plaza Mayor, bread, fruit and plays; at the Cuatro Calles, Lázaro and the poor. Then the patios that open on the eve of Corpus Christi, life under a cobertizo, and marzipan, which began as a sweet for the sick.

Toledo fits into a walk, though rarely a straight line. Good soles and a plan by area do more for the trip than an endless list of monuments.

In 1085 Toledo passed from a Muslim king to a Christian one, and almost everything was left standing.

In the Middle Ages, half of Europe believed that magic was taught in Toledo.

For centuries Toledo was a capital without a court, and power was shared out among those who stayed.
