Kraków's legends offer a way into the city through familiar tales and fresh questions. When did a story appear, how does it relate to a place, and which versions have lasted? This theme keeps the pleasure of hearing about dragons and mysteries while making the distinction between legend and history clear throughout the walk.
In “Wawel and the Dragon”: From the river you follow the legend of Wanda, a barge that in 1939 carried the king's tapestries away down the Vistula, and the chronicler who put the dragon in the cave.
In “Kazimierz, the Jewish Town”: Kazimierz was a town in its own right, with its own market square and town hall, and inside it, from the end of the fifteenth century, a Jewish town with its own wall and gates.
In “Krakow's Main Market Square”: Eleven stops without leaving Poland's most famous square: why the trumpet call breaks off, who carved the altarpiece and ended up branded, how a bronze poet came home, and how much truth there is in the knife, the Tatar rider and Kościuszko's oath.

The centre tempts you to keep walking from square to square. Mix stone streets with parks and a warm meal, leaving time to listen in neighbourhoods that deserve a quieter pace.
